For parents traveling with kids, it’s a daunting affair to keep them entertained and ensuring they get something out of the experience from museum visit. When we talk about museums, NYC has some of the most modernized kid friendly museums in the whole world. The next time you will be taking your kids in NYC to a museum, here are amazing museums that are a must get to, they are kid friendly so you are guaranteed your child wont feel out of place, check them out.
American Museum of Natural History
It’s famed to Dinosaurs Halls, butterfly conservancy, exciting Hayden planetarium, an IMAX theater and space shows. The museum also play host to serious whale action. Every Saturday and Sunday, families enjoy Global weekends, a series of day- long programs that include live performances. Also, they celebrate the lunar New Year and African –American history months. The Cloisters Museum & Gardens
Located in Washington Heights, this museum comes as a fantasyland for kids. The artifacts are perfect for youngsters who are about knights and princesses. Weekly, family programs are offered to help kids and parents learn more of the medieval art. Upcoming programs include medieval knights, medieval masons and sculptors, tell me a story! Medieval menagerie- Gold, Silver and Jewels!
DiMenna Children’s History Museum at the New-York Historical Society
This museum allows kids to explore through the eyes of children from past generations. It occupies the entire lower city of the society museum and library. It includes children’s history library, interactive exhibits, games and character based pavilions in which children can learn about historical figures. The museum offers a retrospective on newsboys of the Broadway hit newsies.
Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum Complex
Intrepid Sea is a fascinating place to see fighter jets and space shuttle on the deck of an aircraft carrier, this museum features Broadway stars in person appearances from professional athletes, puppetry, circus acts and projects that tie into intrepid exhibits. Kids Week activities are free with admission to the museum.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The museum hosts weekly family programs, including toddler story time, drop-in art workshops and Start with Art at the Met, an introduction to art for kids ages 3–7, all of which are free with museum admission. Museum of Modern Art
It sounds pretty adult. The museum offers family gallery talks that look closely at some of the bright and dazzling works of art in the building. Kids sign up for hands-on art workshops like supersize it! ClaesOlderburg’s oversized sculptures, putting it together in a class on reusing and recycling everyday materials into art and look and listen, in which kids ages 4–6 explore music and movement in a drawing workshop.
Museums operate in fixed hours with some being closed for up to a day; you thus have to adjust your time schedule. We advise one to login in the museums website as you prepare to travel, this will also help you know if thee are some changes that you will incur. However, this should not deter you from visiting them, get there and let your little angel quench their minds and learn about the ancient civilizations, milestones and achievements that people have achieved over time, they surely will come out Happy, educated and also challenged to come up with their innovation.
