The locals brag that Nova Scotia is the friendliest place in Canada with the most friendlies people. I must agree, they are right about this. Individuals here are excessively pleasant. Do not be surprised to know that the people won’t lock their doors when they go out. That fact, combined with over one hundred shores, beautiful lighthouses, extraordinary cruising and the delicious seafood because this region of Canada is the fundamental fishing area, and a grand coastline, makes Nova Scotia a stunning spot to visit.

Hostel and Budget Hotel Prices

Hostels usually cost between USD22-28 per night for a bed in a dorm room. To be paying USD45-65 per night for a typical budget hotel is considered standard and it will often include simple breakfast. (image by : JR P)

Average Cost of Food

The region is famously known for its seafood and with almost everything caught right off the shore. This can actually be the cheapest and freshest meal one will have. Based on my personal experience, a restaurant will set you back for about USD30 for a decent seafood meal. And because lobsters are caught nearby, they are cheap in Nova Scotia. But if you aren’t into seafood, you can find some food for less than USD10 and if you’re planning to cook your own food, in a week it’s a standard to be paying between USD50-70.

Transportation Costs

Even if you don’t rent a car, Nova Scotia is still pretty easy to get around. During July-October, there is a reliable bus system that is free of charge for the public. Even though the Downtown Halifax is pretty walkable, you’ll still need a car or you can simply ride the bus to get around to other places on the island.

The Cabot Trail

One of North America’s most spectacular ocean drives is the 185-mile strip of road, Cabot Trail. Passing through the popular Cape Breton Highlands National Park and circles around Island of Cape Breton. As I would see it, it’s definitely one of the best things to do here.

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

Depicting the region’s marine history through a rich collection of armaments, anchors, buoys, binnacles and more. You will never be able to understand Nova Scotia as a whole province if you don’t understand its close relationship with the sea. (image by : Sebastian)

Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse

Famously known for being one of the most beautiful place in the world, the Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse is a definitely a place worth of visit. It’s a great photo opportunity with stereotypical lighthouse structure.

A few last tips for budget traveler would be to view Nova Scotia from the coast by rent a kayak. It’s a lot cheaper than going on an organized tour and for only USD10, you’ll get the chance to do so. Apart from that, book your flight and hotel or hostel together as a package deal during the off season as the rate will be cheaper. I really recommend traveling to Nova Scotia to experience one of most friendliest place in Canada. The seafood are mouth-watering and the scenery are breathtaking. What else do you need?
