If you are planning a family holiday to British Columbia, you will not find yourselves short of things to see and do. Whether you are planning an activity holiday in the summer or winter, or whether you want to enjoy some of the best festivals and discover more about the history and culture of the area, there is plenty to do to keep everyone busy. Here are some suggestions to help you plan your trip.
There is so much to do in the winter for families visiting British Columbia, and ski resorts are the best places to start. As well as the fantastic skiing for all ages, ski resorts like Whistler provide so much more.
Book a hotel using a service like WhistlerPremier.com and you will find yourself in one of the best ski resorts in North America. When you arrive, you will be able to enjoy a range of activities including tobogganing, snowshoeing, sleigh rides and much more in addition to skiing and snowboarding. There are ski schools for all ages including the youngest members of your family, and the après-ski is also excellent.
Many activities in British Columbia are focused around water, with the ocean, lakes and rivers all providing opportunities for having fun. You could visit the beach and go swimming, head to a lake for some fishing, or get active on the water with waterskiing, kayaking or surfing.
Rafting is another adventure-packed activity where you will be able to explore the rivers while taking on the white water rapids. Alternatively, head underground on a caving adventure, with Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park one of the best places to go.
You could also go on a gondola ride, with the famous Peak 2 Peak Gondola in Whistler being one of the best in the country, or go for a ride on one of the numerous zip-lines throughout the region to fly over the incredible landscapes.
There is a stunning array of wildlife to enjoy in British Columbia. You could go on a kayaking adventure and see whales and orcas, or join up with a whale watching tour. Or you could simply visit one of the many zoos and aquariums including Vancouver Aquarium, the Victoria Bug Zoo or the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops.
There are events on throughout the year that are popular with families focusing on nature, culture, food, activities, sports, festive, music, theatre and more. Visit the Cowichan Wine & Culinary Festival, or head to the World Ski & Snowboard Festival in Whistler to enjoy action-packed fun for all the family. Another option is the Whistler Children’s Festival in the summer, which is a great time to book your holiday in the ski resort.
You may also want to find out more about the aboriginal culture of the region during your time here, and there are many ways to do this. For example, you could visit Prince Rupert to see Tsimshian art and artefacts, or visit the Haida Heritage Centre in Kay Llnagaay.
